VANITY FAIR, Green Issue
Nominated by Bex Linton, Manning Gottlieb OMD:
My favourite cover of all time is the May 2006 cover of Vanity Fair - 'The Green Issue'. This cover was particularly striking and was one of Vanity Fair's highest selling issues of all time. Themed issues have always worked well for magazines, but this cover was particularly credible in terms of the calibre of celebrity that was included (George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Al Gore, Robert Downey Jr) and the topic that it tackled. At the time, the 'Green' issue was a hotly debated subject, and by making the cover cool and bold, and using celebrities to draw the reader in, this issue has been heralded as marking a major shift in perceptions of global warming and climate change.
