Magazine Week is part of the PPA's remit to promote and protect the interests of the magazine industry. The initiative is designed to increase awareness of the magazine industry in the UK today and to communicate the breadth of the magazine offering. The Week combines retail promotion and branding with a packed PR schedule, exciting and educating the general public about the vast range of titles available.

  • 2,600 magazines are sold every minute of every day in the UK
  • People in the UK spend around £2 billion on magazines each year
  • There are currently over 3,300 consumer magazines to choose from
  • On average, each magazine is actually read for a total of 50 minutes
  • 80% of all women regularly read a consumer magazine
  • 67% of men regularly read a consumer magazine
  • Each magazine is picked up 5.4 times before it is finished with
  • There are over 54,000 individual places to buy magazines in the UK
  • If you laid side-by-side all of the magazines that were sold in the UK in a year, then they would stretch round the equator six times
  • In the decade since the dawn of the internet, consumer expenditure on magazines has increased by 48%
  • It would take 30 minutes to sell the amount of magazine needed to cover a complete football pitch
  • Consumer magazine sales have increased by 4.3% over the past 5 years and the average UK adult now purchases almost 30 magazines each year
